Is your Manuscript the FINAL?
Your "final" Word MS (manuscript) should be as close to
perfect as you can make it. If your MS was not quite as "final" as you
thought, and you send a revised "final", the following work will need
to be done over again.
-
When your final Word MS is received, it will
first be converted to InDesign, a page layout and professional book
design program.
-
The file will undergo a review to make sure
everything looks ready for formatting, checking for things such as
inappropriate line breaks (soft break) and paragraph returns (hard
break). See How to
Prepare Your Manuscript
-
A few pages will be read to review editorial
structure, grammar and spelling. If it's not ready, you will be advised.
-
Then some global changes will be made to correct for
extra spaces, paragraph returns, tabs, quotation marks, etc.
-
Character attributes (bold, italic, bold italic,
etc) will be scanned globally and converted.
-
Document formatting will then start with paragraph
tagging and style attribute assignments for some sample pages, then for
the whole book.
-
When all the styles have been assigned, the book
will be laid out into its final version and ready for draft proofing.
